Where did this animal go before it reached your farm?
Brazil’s SISBOV system uses individual identification and movement records. Buying and selling livestock requires matching animals, establishments, and dates. Organizing this sequence helps reveal gaps that a record of only the last farm can leave invisible.
Technical context: MAPA — individual identification and movements in SISBOV (opens in a new tab).
The supply chain journey
- Breeding
- Rearing
- Finishing
- Slaughter
Illustrative journey: the actual organization varies by operation.
What to organize in practice
A starting point for a conversation with your technical team:
- Identify origin and destination establishments and periods of residence.
- Reconcile incoming and outgoing animals with GTA movement documents and commercial records.
- Connect individual identifiers where available and applicable.
- Separate documented history from declared or unknown information.
An everyday situation
A group purchased for finishing includes animals from different breeders. Keeping only the finishing farm’s documents does not explain the earlier stages.
An important distinction
GTA movement documents, SISBOV, and environmental assessment serve different purposes. Do not present an animal health document as automatic proof of EUDR compliance or assume Trace integrates with these systems.
How this connects to Trace
Use farm records, supplier and lot relationships, and documents to organize what your operation can demonstrate. Record the gaps too: declared information and verified evidence are not the same thing.

Why consider indirect suppliers in cattle traceability?
An animal may pass through breeding, rearing, and finishing farms before reaching the meat processor’s direct supplier. Organize the available movements and earlier connections. Knowing only the last farm leaves part of that journey unexplained.
Do GTA, SISBOV, and EUDR serve the same purpose?
No. GTA documents animal movements, while SISBOV addresses individual identification and traceability within its scope. EUDR preparation involves a separate assessment of origin and evidence. Trace does not issue GTA documents, replace SISBOV, or turn these records into EUDR certification.
Organizational guidance. Technical and legal assessment depends on the operation and available evidence.
