What is EUDR, and how can you prepare your information?

An introduction to the distinction between the regulation, operational documents, and the role of software.

What does EUDR mean?

EUDR stands for European Union Deforestation Regulation, the EU regulation on deforestation-free products. In Brazil, it is also commonly called the European Union’s anti-deforestation law.

EUDR concerns products associated with cattle, cocoa, coffee, oil palm, rubber, soy, and wood. Scope depends on the covered products, the operation, and the company’s role; the commodity name alone is not enough.

The aim is to prevent products from contributing to deforestation and forest degradation. Consult the legal text and its amendments to assess each case.

Three questions to organize preparation

Which product and which operation?
Separate classification, composition, and commercial destination. Do not use a generic list as a scope decision.
What is known about the origin?
Connect areas, suppliers, periods, and documents. Identify missing information before presenting a conclusion.
Who reviews and takes responsibility?
Identify technical, legal, and operational responsibilities. Preparing files and deciding whether they are sufficient are different tasks.

Organizational questions, not a transcription or complete list of legal obligations.

Dossier, due diligence, and DDS are not synonyms

A dossier gathers material. Due diligence involves assessment and decisions. A DDS is a statement within the applicable regulatory process. Trace supports organization and local preparation; submission or acceptance in the European system should not be assumed.
